During the time I was recording the songs that would be part of my first album, the major influence was the music and message of Phil Ochs. In fact It was because of Phil that I decide to restart my musical career in December 1999. the method that this album was recorded was inspired by the format of Phil's debut album"All the News That's Fit to Print". It has been my hope to to bring hope to people through my songs and give voice to the concerns that are not covered in our daily lives...I choose this song especially because at the time we were recording it, the US was ramping up the rhetoric for waging a war with Iraq. I wanted to perform Phil's song about the true costs of war. I wrote two additional verses to update the song to our times. I got the album finished and released about two weeks before the war "began" (though it was a done deal long before). Now we look back at the whole debacle and wonder just as Phil did, "Was it worth it all?"
